Many politicians are currently trying to distinguish themselves with law-and-order phrases. Personally, however, I do not see it as a gain to be able to participate in public life only under hermetic safety regulations. I cannot be happy about the promise of secure doors and higher walls – especially not as the ultimate goal of a policy against anti-Semitism. Even the strongest security measures can be overcome. They are of little use if the seeds of hatred sprout anew every day.

Fight the breeding ground

The goal must be that Jews and other minorities are no longer at greater risk than other people. We have to go from the defensive to the offensive and consistently take action against any form of hatred that prepares the breeding ground for right-wing extremist violence.

Instead of giving the AfD agitators the stage to shed cheap crocodile tears over the attack in Halle, their complicity must be clearly addressed in the media. Not just the tip of the iceberg, like the assassin Stephan B., but the whole range of "moderate" AfD politicians, from the Höcke wing to White Supremacy supporters, must be fought effectively.

Politics, justice and education are required for this. It is of no use to set up more police if the ideology of the assassin, the fairy tale of the "Great exchange", is served anew every day – even under "Moderates".

Only when we get to the root of the problem will Jews and other minorities be able to live a little more safely in this country again.

A right-wing terrorist killed two people in Halle – and wanted to murder many more. What is known about the crime so far? An overview.

A heavily armed perpetrator killed two people and injured others in Halle an der Saale for anti-Semitic and right-wing extremist motives. The course of events can only be reconstructed so far, the authorities have so far only confirmed little. The perpetrator apparently filmed his deeds himself for the Internet and a "manifest" released. The documents are available to t-online.de, but their authenticity has not yet been confirmed by the security authorities. However, they coincide with the few known facts and appear to be authentic.

The sequence of the attack:

The perpetrator drives a car to Humboldtstrasse near the city center at around 12 noon and stops purposefully in front of the synagogue. He tries to get in, shoots at the door and also tries to get in with an explosive device. But he fails, the door holds. According to the community chairman, 70 to 80 people are celebrating Yom Kippur in the synagogue at the time. In front of the synagogue, a woman who apparently happens to pass by speaks to the perpetrator. He shoots her in the back. She is dead. According to information from security sources, it is a 40-year-old woman from Halle. The perpetrator continues to try to get into the synagogue. When the driver of a courier company comes by, he aims at him too. But his weapon apparently fails. The driver escapes unscathed. At some point the perpetrator leaves the synagogue, gets back in the car and drives on, stopping in front of a kebab shop, where he fires several times. Inside the shop, he kills a man with multiple shots. Security circles report that it is a 20-year-old man from Merseburg. Before the snack he fires again at a young man, but he escapes. The perpetrators’ weapons fail again and again, which is probably not the reason why more people die. When the police arrive, he shoots the officers, is apparently hit in the neck himself, but is able to flee with his car he filmed out of the window and the almost 36 minute long recording breaks off.essay on community service benefits

Shots in Saxony-Anhalt

The escape:

So far there have only been media reports about the temporary escape. The police only spoke of presumably several fugitive perpetrators on Wednesday. She now assumes that it is just a perpetrator who she arrested in the afternoon.

The perpetrator apparently escapes from Halle in an easterly direction. Shortly after the crime, the authorities published a warning message for the region around Landsberg, which is about 15 kilometers away, and the media reported that the perpetrator wanted to get a new car near Landsberg-Wiedersdorf. He threatened the owner of a car repair shop with a gun and demanded a car. He then drove away in a taxi that was parked there for repairs, and the police also confirmed shots in Landsberg. According to information from security circles, the perpetrator shoots a 40-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man, a couple who run a business there. The perpetrator then apparently heads south. The police in Bavaria reports that they are preparing for an armed violent criminal. According to media reports, he is said to have taken the A9 southbound, and according to media reports, he has left the Autobahn on the B91 near Zeitz, which is about 70 kilometers south of Landsberg. There he collided with a truck and was then arrested. The police do not confirm the location of the arrest.

The culprit:

The suspect is 27-year-old Stephan B. from Saxony-Anhalt. The Attorney General has since confirmed this. According to media reports, he is a German citizen. Videos and photos show a young, white man with a bald head in riot gear. The federal prosecutor’s office has since searched the suspect’s home and has seized evidence. He is said to have lived with his mother in Benndorf near Eisleben. The place is about 40 kilometers west of Halle.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has since confirmed that it regards the act as right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic motivated. This can also be seen in the self-filmed video of the perpetrator as well as in the "manifest". In the video, the perpetrator says, among other things: "I think the Holocaust never happened." He incites against feminism and migration. "And the root of all these problems is the Jew." That coincides with his "manifest"in which he pretends to be a goal "kill as many anti-whites as possible, preferably Jews". According to initial information, Stephan B. had not yet been noticed as part of the right-wing extremist scene in Saxony-Anhalt.

 What we don’t know:

Most of the information about the course of the crime, escape and the suspect have not yet been officially confirmed by the authorities. It is not yet known whether the perpetrator had helpers or supporters. He used self-made weapons, as security circles confirm. How he procured them, whether he ordered parts or entire weapons on the Darknet, for example, is unknown. How Stephan B. became an anti-Semite and right-wing extremist is also unclear. Video and "manifest" at least suggest that he was apparently in various forums on the Internet. The exact number of victims is not yet known. The police searched several houses in Landsberg. What they were looking for is unknown.
