Earlier today, Auguste “Semmler” Massonnat made a big announcement on Twitter. In the post, he revealed that he will not be returning as a commentator for the third season of the Overwatch League. Semmler’s leaving follows several other announcements of major casting personalities intending to exit from the Overwatch League.
I will not be returning to cast full-time at @overwatchleague. The hard part is putting a 2 year partnership on hold. Thanks to @hexagrams for having my back in all things. Too many in the crew to thank, you know who you are. Best of luck with the homestands! Time to GET AFTER IT pic.twitter.com/TConzA6r7u

Not the first to go, likely not the last
At this point, several of the other casting personalities have already announced they will be leaving the scene. The most notable names include Christopher “Montecristo” Mykles and Chris Puckett. Montecristo and Puckett were the first to reveal they would be leaving the scene. However, shortly following their announcement, former League of Legends caster Erik “DoA” Lonnquist also announced he would not be making a return to the league for the 2020 season.
Semmler’s decision to leave the Overwatch League
In his announcement post, he thanks his former casting partner Robert “Hexagrams” Kirkbride for their time together casting the Overwatch League. At this point, he has not explained further his reasoning behind leaving the scene, though to many the writing is on the wall. The Overwatch League is unlikely to succeed, following the many issues the league had to overcome throughout 2019.
Before the Overwatch League, Semmler was one of the most liked casters in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) scene. Many of the fans hope he will be returning to CSGO now that his time in Overwatch has come to an end. Last November, Semmler already took the opportunity to cast at the Blast Pro Series in Copenhagen, where he was welcomed back by the community. While at this point his future is still unclear, the fans know they will welcome him back anytime.
